Christmas Flowers That Last: A Holiday Gift Guide for 2026
The best Christmas flowers are the ones still on the table in March. Preserved roses and hydrangeas are real flowers, picked in full bloom and treated so they stay soft for 1 to 3 years, with no water at all. In deep red, ivory, and plum they suit the season, and they carry straight on into the new year. Here is how to choose them, who they suit, and when to order so they arrive in time.
Why Preserved Flowers Make Good Christmas Gifts
December is a hard month for fresh flowers. Homes are warm and dry, hosts are busy, and a bouquet that arrives on the 20th is often gone by New Year's Eve. Preserved flowers sidestep all of that.
- They outlast the season. A preserved arrangement given at Christmas is still there for Valentine's Day, and long after.
- Nothing to look after. No water, no trimming, no vase to find in the middle of a party.
- Easy in a full house. They are pollen-free and have little or no scent, so they sit comfortably beside food and a crowded dining table.
- They travel well. Bouquets ship across the contiguous US, wrapped in our signature paper and packed in our flower box.
Christmas Colors, and the Flowers to Match
Holiday flowers work best in one clear palette. Pick the shade that suits the home it is going to.
Deep red
The classic. A single long-stem red rose in a white ceramic bud vase says Christmas without a sprig of holly in sight. The Classic Belle Rose is a vivid red; The Classic Rose is a deeper burgundy red. For a small shelf or a desk, The Mini Belle Rose is the same red in a compact vase. See all of our red and burgundy flowers.
Ivory and white
Calm, wintry, and easy to place in any interior. Ivory pairs white preserved hydrangea with pampas and soft gypsophila, and looks like a snowy morning on a console table.
Plum and burgundy
Richer and more unexpected. Scarlet mixes burgundy and cotton-candy pink, and Midnight Bloom is a dark purple hydrangea bouquet that looks beautiful by candlelight.
Blush and silver
For a softer Christmas, a single rose in a clear acrylic box. The Crystal Rose in Powder Pink is a gift that looks wrapped before you wrap it.
Christmas Flower Gifts by Recipient
For the host
Bring something ready to place. A bouquet that stands on its own, or a rose in a bud vase, can go straight onto the table while the host carries on cooking. A calm palette such as ivory or deep red suits almost any holiday table.
For your mom, partner, or best friend
Go a little bigger. A full hydrangea bouquet in a color they love, like Pink Parfait in pink and red, is the kind of gift that stays on a nightstand or dining table for the whole year ahead.
For colleagues and clients
Keep it compact and considered. The Crystal Rose, a single eternity rose in an acrylic box, sits well on a desk and needs nothing from a busy recipient. When to Order Christmas Flowers
Earlier than you think, if they are traveling.
- Across the US. Nationwide orders ship from our New York studio within 2 to 5 business days, and ground delivery usually takes 5 to 7 business days after that. For delivery before Christmas, order by December 9 to be safe, and earlier if you can.
- In New York City. Orders placed before 11am, Monday to Friday, can arrive the same day within our local delivery range. Browse same-day delivery in NYC, or pick up from our SoHo studio.
- At the last minute. A gift card arrives by email, so it works even on Christmas Eve.
Vase arrangements are available for NYC delivery or studio pickup only. Outside New York, choose a bouquet or a boxed rose.
Caring for Preserved Flowers Over the Holidays
Winter homes are warm and dry, and that is the one thing to watch.
- Keep them away from heat. Radiators, heating vents, and fireplaces dry the petals out faster.
- Keep them clear of candles. Preserved and dried flowers are dry by nature, so set any candle or open flame well apart from them.
- Keep them out of direct sun. A bright winter window can still fade the color over time.
- No water, ever. A dry spot indoors is all they need.
Treat them this way, and a Christmas arrangement stays soft and full for 1 to 3 years. For the full routine, see how to care for preserved flowers.
Frequently asked questions
What flowers are traditional at Christmas?
Poinsettias, amaryllis, holly, and red roses are the classic Christmas choices, most often in red and white. Preserved roses and hydrangeas in deep red and ivory follow the same palette, and they last well beyond the holidays.
Are preserved flowers a good Christmas gift?
Yes, especially for someone who hosts, travels, or simply has a busy December. They need no water, they are pollen-free, and they stay soft for 1 to 3 years with care.
Can you send Christmas flowers anywhere in the US?
Our bouquets and boxed roses ship to all 48 contiguous states. Vase arrangements are for NYC delivery or pickup at our SoHo studio.
When is the last day to order for Christmas delivery?
For nationwide delivery, order by December 9 to be safe. In New York City, same-day delivery is available for orders placed before 11am on weekdays, and a gift card can be sent at any time.
Can preserved flowers sit near a fireplace?
Keep them a good distance away. Heat dries the petals out, and like any dried flower they should never be near an open flame.
